Structures and infrastructure

Light pole and infrastructure foundations

Footings and foundations for the structures that sit within infrastructure and energy projects: light and camera poles, fencing, pier works, equipment plinths and substation structures. This is focused foundation engineering, delivered to the head contractor's requirements.

Foundation packages within larger projects

Large projects are made up of many smaller structures, each needing a foundation designed to the project's standards and signed off through its design management process. That's where we help: a clearly scoped foundation package delivered in the project's format, with calculations and drawings that stand up to design review.

Typical structures

  • Light and camera poles: overturning moment, base plates and anchor bolts.
  • Fencing: long runs over varying ground, with wind on mesh, screens or noise barriers.
  • Pier works: foundations for marine and waterfront structures.
  • Equipment and substation structures: plinths and footings for plant, designed around the vendor's loads.

For work on the V/Line network, Atbin is endorsed by V/Line in the geotechnical designer category.

What's included

  • Foundation design for poles, fencing, equipment and minor structures
  • Base plate and anchor bolt design
  • Calculations and drawings in the project's format
  • Responses to design review comments
  • Construction-phase queries and non-conformance responses

What you receive

  • Design reportDesign basis, calculations and assumptions.
  • DrawingsFoundation layouts and details.
  • Review responsesPoint-by-point responses to design review comments.
  • Construction supportRFIs and non-conformance assessments.

Scope, fee and programme are confirmed in a written proposal for your project before any engineering starts.

What we need from you

  • Structure loads or supplier data
  • Geotechnical information
  • Project design requirements and drawing standards
  • Site constraints and existing services

Don't have everything yet? Send what you have. We'll tell you what's missing and whether it affects the proposal.

How it works

  1. Package definitionWe agree which structures and design cases are in scope.
  2. ProposalWe confirm the deliverables and the programme against the project's milestones.
  3. DesignWe prepare the calculations and drawings.
  4. Review and constructionWe respond to design review comments and support construction.

Who does what

MEG provides

  • Foundation design for the defined structures
  • Design review responses
  • Construction-phase engineering support

Not included, or by others

  • Design of the structures themselves, unless agreed
  • Electrical, road or rail systems design
  • Geotechnical investigation

Where a project needs another specialist, we can recommend one and coordinate with them. We make it clear who is responsible for each part.

Relevant experience

Relevant experience includes:

  • West Gate Tunnel Project: footing design for perimeter and operational management fencing structures
  • St Kilda Pier: footing design for pier foundation works
  • Pier Street, Altona: light pole foundations, base plates and connections

Questions

Can you work within our design management process?

Yes. We'll deliver to your drawing standards, templates and review process.

Can you respond to non-conformances during construction?

Yes. We assess the non-conformance against the design and give an engineering disposition.

Ready to talk about your project?

An initial conversation about your project and a fee proposal cost nothing. Engineering advice, reviews, designs and reports are provided once you've accepted a proposal.
